Stellare I like this

Stellare is a woman from ÅSA, Norway.
Earth science expert and astrophysicist interested in Earth observation, geodesy, climate change, geohazards, water cycle and other science related topics. I also like to meet new people from all around the world. I'm totally in love with space and photography.

Leave Them Alone!

Unbelievable! How can anybody be so cruel and stupid and kill these beautiful blue animals? Even though Blue Iguana Recovery Programdo their best to protect these rare animals who reside on Cayman Island, the growing population of the island seem to be overwhelming. Shame on those killers.

Stellar Stuff on SU

The Blue Magic

The Blue Magic has nothing to do with the tiny slivers of diamond forged on an infant Earth that may contain the earliest traces of life. Analysis of the crystals showed they contain a form of carbon often associated with plants and bacteria. The rare gems were found inside zircon crystals, formed a few hundred million years after the Earth came into being.

Stradivarius for Sarah?

Sarah (16) is my SUPER TALENTED niece. I openly admit I am beyond reason PROUD of her. She has already attended classes at the University of Oslo for years and she is enrolled at the best music school in Norway. She might be the best, but without the right instrument she will never make it on the international scene.

Scientists now think they've understood what makes an instrument world class unique for centuries - wood density! A Stradivarius is world known for its quality, but there are others as well. These instruments are so valuable, artists cannot afford them. Sponsors with a need to create a cultural image lend instruments to star players.

Time & Tide Not Important?

Credit: NASA/GSFC/MITI/ERSDAC/JAROS, and U.S./Japan ASTER Science Team

Strait of Dover

The strong pull of tidal currents sweeps water from the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean through the narrow Strait of Dover.

We must have come to the end of times, now that time and tides no longer are important to the Brits! :-)

I have a hard time accepting that the Brits don't care about being invaded. It should be the other way around, especially for Great Britain. (also for Vikings...).

Besides, what would become of our society if it were not for geodesy (tides, time) and astronomy (tides, time)? No GPS, no naval or aviation navigation, no rocketry, no nothing in fact. We wouldn't have a clue about climate change; though it might sound insignificant with a few days pluss or minus on a historical scale, it is in fact far from it when monitor our Mother Earths changes. Far, far from it!

So I beg to differ on this one, Sam! :-)

Have a jolly good time with science.
